The 15th Daily Star award ceremony, held at Mirpur Indoor Stadium on 5thApril 2014, honoured those who received 6 'A's in O-Levels, 3 'A's in A-Levels, and highest marks in O-Levels and A-Levels in 2012-2013 academic year.
The Education Minister Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid was the chief guest of the programme. Speeches were given by Mr. Mahfuz Anam, the Daily Star editor and publisher, Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid, the Education Minister of Bangladesh, Mr. Robert Winnington Gibson, the British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Mr. Simon Young, regional director of Edexcel UK.
Congratulating the award-winners from 71 English medium schools from across the country, speakers at the programme urged the students to recognise the achievements Bangladesh has made defying all odds and adversities.
Urging students to make a positive difference in this world, Simon Young, regional director of Edexcel UK, said more than 18,000 Bangladeshi students sit for the Edexel O- and A-level examinations every year.
Ragib Mostafa of International Turkish Hope School in his speech , thanked his family and teachers for his outstanding performance in the O-level examinations in which he earned 11 A*'s in one sitting. Ragib also achieved world highest and country highest marks in International GCSE Mathematics examinations.
ZarinTasneem has been awarded as country highest achiever in Commerce.
Masud Oraz got the country highest in Turkish.
60% of Turkish Hope School students were awarded in the event.
